Cara Mowery, MS, RDN, LDN, IBCLC

Welcome! I’m Cara and I’m a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC).

As a dietitian, I'm here to walk alongside you to help you meet your food & nutrition goals and nurture a positive relationship with food. I believe food is meant for both nourishment and enjoyment, and my goal is to help you worry less about it so you can focus on what matters most in your busy life!

As a lactation consultant, my goal is for every family I work with to feel heard and seen. Every mom and baby are unique, and by keeping your feeding goals, your baby's personality, and your family's needs at the center of every consultation, I aim to provide support that's tailored to your family - because you're the expert on your child, and I'm simply here to support you!

Whether you’re looking for nutrition or lactation support, I’d love to be a part of your team! Learn more about my areas of expertise here and reach out if you want to connect!

When I'm not working, you'll find me spending time with my family, friends, and church community, baking, reading, or catching the NC State game (Go Pack)! I can't wait to get to know you too!

Nutrition Philosophy

My approach to nutrition counseling is individualized because everyone has different needs, preferences, and goals. While acknowledging these differences, these are a few guiding principles that inform my approach:

  • All Food Can Fit: I believe all foods can fit in a balanced diet, outside of any medical needs, and I use neutral language around food, avoiding labels like "good" or "bad."

  • Intuitive Eating: I draw on intuitive eating principles and can help you gradually work toward them if that’s something you're interested in exploring. For those navigating disordered eating, we'll focus on building a stable physical and mental foundation first.

  • Sustainable Goal Setting: Rather than focusing on specific numbers, I encourage behavior-oriented goals rooted in quality of life and overall wellbeing, breaking larger goals into small, realistic steps.

More balance. Less stress.
